Final draft of my short story

My short story

‘All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.’ However, this boy was the complete opposite. The only thing that played on his mind were computer games. He did not even pay any attention to the teachers when in school. The only things that he would succeed in beside computer games were not handing in homework on time, infuriating the teacher and playing truant just to stay at home to play computer games. As a result, his results dropped terribly and he was perpetually punished by his parents.
Soon, it was the Primary 6 mid-year examination. Even though the examination was just the day after, he did not prepare for the test and continued to play computer games. “Stop playing!” His mother’s loud voice echoed in the air. “Not again!” He thought to himself. He immediately slammed the door shut in his mother’s face and went back to his usual routine…
It was the time to give out the report card. The report card was slowly placed on the boy’s table. He had prepared for the worst. And, his fear came true. On the report card, there was big and red ‘F’ word. But the unexpected thing was that his report card came with a slip of paper while the others did not. He carefully opened the slip of paper and was shocked to see the words ‘I want to see your mother or father today. Please bring him/her to my office.’ followed by the principal’s signature.
After school, as usual his mother came to fetch him from school. He slowly walked to the gate, heart pounding rapidly. The question of whether to tell his mother or not, kept popping out in his mind. Once his mother saw his anxious face, he knew that something had happened. “Give me your report card.” His mother requested. The boy tried to act foolish and pretended nothing had happened. However his was shocked out of his mind when she said, “Now!”
The report card with the paper was handed over. She paused for a while, looking at the trouble and mess that he had got himself into. She dragged the boy and proceeded to the principal’s. In the office, the mother pleaded to give him another chance. However, the principal seemed reluctant and said, “He will only bring down our school reputation. We don’t want notorious pupils.” She had no choice but to use the last resort. In front of her son and principal, she went down on her knees and pleaded pitifully. Still, the principal did not react.
With the anger building inside, she gave a tight slap on his face in front of the principal. The principal was stunned to see this. He immediately said, “We can give him a chance.” As a result, the mother thanked the principal profusely. The boy knew that when they get home, he had to face up to the dine. From then on, the boy decided to turn over a new leaf and for the better.
He worked very hard in the remaining few months and promised to himself that he would score better marks in the end of year examination, PSLE. Since then, he did not even touch the computer for one second. He did his homework on time and revised his notes whenever he went home. Time passed very quickly. It was the release of the PSLE results. It was the day that he could truly prove to everyone that he had really worked hard.
The principal went up on the stage and announced the results. He paused before announcing the top scorer for the school. He told the school that this score and improvement was an unexpected one. Everyone, including the parents was anxious to know who the unexpected student was. The name was displayed on the screen. To the school’s surprise, the most familiar, notorious student went up onto the stage. There were chatters among the students, “Why… is he up there?” Everyone was astonished. The student who was previously infamous for playing truancy had managed to get the best result among the students.
There was a moment of silence, and then followed by loud applause by the parents and students. The hard work had finally paid off. He had finally proved to everyone that he could overcome the obstacles. Now, he could finally reassure his parents that in the future, he will not repeat his past mistakes again.

Create a story with a photo (setting)

"Whenever I come face to face with the swimming pool, the thought of this incident crippled me with fear." I always had a phobia of swimming. This happened because of this particular incident and it still frightened me till today. The luminous blue colour of the pool made me feel dizzy. And the incident vividly popped up in my mind once again...

1)      Discrimination against the Jews
-          Classified as Racial and Religion
Between 1935 and 1936 persecution of the Jews increased apace while the process of "Gleichschaltung" was implemented. In May 1935, Jews were forbidden to join the Wehrmacht and in the summer of the same year, anti-semitic propaganda appeared in shops and restaurants. The Nuremberg Laws were passed around the time of the great Nazi rallies at Nuremberg; on September 15, 1935 the "Law for the Protection of German Blood and Honor" was passed, preventing marriage between any Jew and non - Jews. At the same time, the "Reich Citizenship Law" was passed and was reinforced in November by a decree, stating that all Jews, even quarter- and half-Jews, were no longer citizens of their own country. This meant that they were deprived of basic citizens' rights, e.g., the right to vote. This removal of citizens' rights was instrumental in the process of anti-semitic persecution: the process of denaturalization allowed the Nazis to exclude.

2)      What are ‘concentration camps’
Internment is the imprisonment or confinement of people, commonly in large groups, without trial. The Oxford English Dictionary (1989) gives the meaning as: "The action of 'interning'; confinement within the limits of a country or place." Most modern usage is about individuals, and there is a distinction between internment, which is being confined usually for preventive or political reasons, and imprisonment, which is being closely confined as a punishment for crime. Internment also refers to the practice of neutral countries in time of war in detaining belligerent armed forces and equipment in their territories.

3)      What is ‘genocide’
Genocide is the ultimate expression of hatred and violence against a group of people and the deliberate and systematic destruction, in whole or in part, of an ethnic, racial, religious, or national group.
4)      What is ‘Mein Kampf’
Mein Kampf in (English: my struggle) is a book written by Nazi politician Adolf Hitler. In Mein Kampf, Hitler uses the main thesis of "the Jewish peril", which speaks of an alleged Jewish conspiracy to gain world leadership. The narrative describes the process by which he became increasingly anti-Semitic and militaristic, especially during his years in Vienna. Yet, the deeper origins of his anti-semitism remain a mystery. He speaks of not having met a Jew until he arrived in Vienna, and that at first his attitude was liberal and tolerant. When he first encountered the anti-semitic press, he says, he dismissed it as unworthy of serious consideration. A little later and quite suddenly, it seems, he accepted the same anti-semitic views whole-heartedly, which became crucial in his programme of national reconstruction. Becoming acquainted with Zionism, which he calls a "great movement," is what Hitler claims coalesced his view that one cannot be both a German and a Jew.

‘All work and no play made Jack a dull boy.’ However, this boy was of the complete opposite. Every time, the thing that always came up to his mind was computer games.
